Court Street Restaurant, Hoboken – A Time Capsule with a Damn Good Prime Rib Walking into Court Street feels like stepping into a place that time forgot—one of those rare joints that has managed to dodge the soulless clutches of modernity, Instagram gimmicks, and QR code menus. It’s got the bones of an old-school New Jersey haunt: dim lighting, dark wood, a bar that’s seen a few things, and a crowd that actually eats instead of just photographing their plates. Then there’s the Monday night prime rib special—a miracle of inflation-defying generosity. Thirty bucks gets you a big-ass slab of prime rib, three sides, and a French onion soup that’s unapologetically rich, bubbling over with melted Gruyere, and bracingly salty in the way only a proper French onion soup should be. It’s a meal that makes you wonder if you’ve somehow stepped into a wormhole leading directly back to 1997. The prime rib itself? A beauty. Thick, juicy, still blushing in the middle, with just the right amount of fat to remind you why you came. The jus is deep, dark, and almost medicinal in its beefy essence—none of that watered-down nonsense. The sides—some combination of mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, maybe some steamed veggies—do their job, but let’s be honest: you’re here for the meat. The bar, of course, is where you want to be. Regulars perched on stools, sipping whiskey, chatting with the bartender like they actually know each other. No pretense, no nonsense—just good food, stiff drinks, and the kind of place where you could easily lose a few hours and not regret a single second. In a city where every new restaurant feels like it’s trying to sell you on some overpriced, deconstructed nonsense, Court Street remains what it’s always been: a proper neighborhood joint that knows exactly what it is and makes no apologies for it. If you find yourself in Hoboken on a Monday night and you skip this? Well, that’s your mistake.

Love it for its side alley look, but also the fact that it’s not shady. Spent my Sunday evening here and loved the crowd, food and some local upstate/east coast wines and beers

I had the filet of sole and a glass of Chardonnay and my wife had the burger. Sole with au gratin potatoes was excellent and loved that they have gluten free buns for my wife (she has an allergy).Food and atmosphere was great but it was a busy Friday night so just a hair slow on the service but still great experience. Reasonable prices, will definitely go back!

Update: upon going there a second time, the food is still great, I like their presentation. Compared to all the other dishes the Steak was a bit boring perfectly made but it was plated bad. The chocolate parafait was really good, a bit too chocolaty but very delicious. I wanted to go here for a while now. I loved it there. I had cow liver and it tasted awesome. The food was good portion and beautifully served. The staff were polite and friendly and very responsive. Overall I really liked this place.

Sometimes you want low-key... but elevated. That’s Court Street. Solid wine list, no pretense, and the kind of reliable menu that makes you look smart for picking it. I use it for client dinners when I want to impress without trying too hard. Hoboken Realtor tip: Grab the lobster ravioli. Thank me later.

This place stays the test of time. Had always been in my top five favorite Hoboken restaurants. Had been living in the city for a while and recently returned, and am happy to report it’s just as good as it’s always been. Tasty food, lots of options. Wine prices on par with the rest of the area, but the quality vs the competition is superior. The vibe, whether in the front pub area or back dining room are each great in their own right. As a local, I’ll be a regular.

We can’t believe it’s taken us so long to try this place! Wow! What a find!! The bar area is great - lots of seating at the bar and high tops near the windows. The restaurant area is also lovely with table cloths and linen napkins. Very extensive wine list with amazing prices! And the FOOD...so much choice and absolutely delicious! I think we’ve found our new favourite place in Hoboken!
